Associate Professor at University of Sydney

Dr. Cao Hung PHAM is an Associate Professor in Structural Engineering and currently serves as the Director of Space, Health & Safety at School of Civil Engineering, the University of Sydney. He earned his PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Sydney in 2010. Prior to this, he held a position as a Lecturer at the University of Architecture – Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam from 2004 to 2006. From 2011 to 2015, he was awarded the prestigious ARC Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship. Subsequently, he was appointed to a continuing academic position as Lecturer in 2013, later promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2018, and Associate Professor in 2022 at the University of Sydney.

 

Associate Professor PHAM’s primary research interests are theoretical and experimental structural behaviours and designs, with a particular focus on steel and cold-formed steel structures. He has authored over 150 scientific articles published in international prestigious journals and conference proceedings. His research findings have significantly contributed to the development of design rules in the North American Specification and Australian/New Zealand Standard for Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members. He is a member of the Standards-Australia Committee BD-82 on Cold-Formed Steel Structures – AS/NZS4600. He has successfully secured funding for three ARC Discovery Projects, one ARC Linkage Project with BlueScope Steel, one ARC Research Hub for Australian Steel Innovation, and one Innovation Connections Grant. He holds membership on the Editorial Boards of Thin-Walled Structures Journal, Buildings Journal and Journal of Science and Technology in Civil Engineering.
